J7There have been various comments made on this website and on our Facebook page about the problems we all face resulting from the lack of gritting and in particular that the local authorities are only gritting the main roads.

Our local councillors have been discussing this. At a recent Traffic & Transport meeting, chaired by our Mayor, Councillor Stan Heptinstall, the following was minuted:

Lack of gritting of roads in Stapleford following Christmas period snow and ice.

This was raised by several members who reported difficulties on many side roads for several days. SH reported that there had been a two hour discussion at a County Council meeting the previous day. The problem had occurred all over the county and had been attributed to rainfall being forecast prior to the snow, rendering gritting ineffectual.

Councillor Jacky Williams reported, on 12 January:

“I have carried out a random sample check of grit bins around Stapleford this morning. Out of nine bins that I checked, five had been freshly filled but the remaining four were empty, broken and a couple were full of rubbish. I have informed the County Council and sent photographic evidence. If you have a grit bin near you that has NOT been refilled, please let me know and I will report to Jim Freeman at the County Council. You may choose to report directly via the NCC web site, of course.”
